It seems so peaceful, even though the terrain looks abandon and a bit daunting. Like the quiet after a storm, the peace after a battle.

It was an ancient kingdom, adored by the thousands by a noble king. However, his nobility was not respected as much by the other kingdoms in distant lands. They became envious of the kings great prosperous and wealthy kingdom. Through war, famine and disease, the kingdom fell and in one last defense the king called upon the Gods of Mercy, the gods that protected the realm of humanity, and asked them to spare his people in exchange for his his life, his title and his stronghold of his kingdom. The gods admired the king's bravery and admired his sacrifice and accepted. The people who slowly died all slept in a peaceful state and the gods scattered them across the lands, leaving the kingdom in ruins. However, the people who were saved by the gods have never forgotten the beautiful and peaceful home they once lived. They lived on telling stories of a great kingdom once ruled by a brave and noble king. And it is said that one day, the descendants of that forgotten kingdom will return and build a Utopia and bring peace to all corners of the land. This was the Gods of Mercy's gift to a courageous king and loving people.

What happened here?  Alas! It is a story almost too tragic for words.  But since miming does not work very well here in the comments section, I shall have recourse to words.

It was winter in the high mountain pass.  The sleigh and its beasts of burden had been stranded for days by a blizzard.  Both beasts and man were famished.

Then one of the reindeer looked hungrily at Santa....

The other reindeer caught on quickly.   It was later known as ...

...the Donner party!

The mountain/environment looks just like Jonas De Ro's tutorial on how to paint a landscape, from Digital Tutors.

Rightly epic. There is a very nice use here of atmospheric perspective. The moments disappearing into the mist like that is very realistic and highly believable. The texture is very authentic, and there is a great attention to detail. I really like how in your works, you make your settings so vast an expansive and your subject matters are always so small. It gives the feel of a large, endless world teeming with mystery and excitement. =)

So beautiful and sad... I like how the lighting gives you the feeling this from a movie or something and the mountains' formations are pretty interesting!

Centuries ago there was a town here. A devastating earthquake though, forced the people to abandon this place. It's said that Mother Nature took her toil that day, as patches of grass began to emerge just a few days after the last carriage disappeared in the horizon. Vines strangled the pillars supporting the houses, making them grumble to dust and trees grew from left out fireplaces. The last indication that this valley no longer belong to man, was a little seven-petaled flower sprouting on top of the flagpole. How this could happen though is beyond me. Are you even listening, horse? No? *sigh* Well you sure are no fun...
